Kael Rills, the wounded townsman appears in the original Diablo game if the Butcher quest is available. With his dying words, he explains how Archbishop Lazarus led him and several other townsfolk on the abortive attempt to rescue the Prince, and asks the hero to kill the Butcher. He then dies (becomes "the slain townsman") and his body remains near the cathedral until the Butcher is killed.
Note: In the first Diablo game, the wounded townsman was unnamed. The name "Kael Rills" is given to him in the Diablo D&D product Diablo II: The Awakening.
