Item Quality

Purple color item quality

Normal - Normal items will have a white colored name.

Magic - Magic items will be returning in Diablo III. Magic items will have a blue colored name.

Rare - Blizzard has stated that they want rares to have a chance to be better than uniques because of the random modifiers. Rare items will have a yellow colored name.

Unique - Unique items will be returning in Diablo III. Unique items will have an orange colored name (was initially purple).

Sets - It is unknown whether or not sets will return in Diablo III. Blizzard has commented on the problems with sets form Diablo II and are unsure if they want them to return. Set items will have a green colored name.

"Unknown" - There is one more type of item but it is unknown exactly what type it is. Some people say it is the items crafted using the Talisman or an item quality higher than uniques. "Unknown" item will have a purple colored name.

Armor

Types

Equipment Screen
Helms - Featured on the Characters, there have been a few helm types confirmed for the game. The Barbarian is wearing a full helm, the Witch Doctor has a Voodoo Mask, the Wizard is dawning a crown and the Monk has a circlet on.

Chest - Chest pieces have ranged from the Witch Doctor's barely there, to the Wizard's flowing robes. The Barbarian has been depicted with chest armor from a few straps holding up his pants to full covered plate armor. The Monk has his traditional yellow/orange cloth armor.

Shoulders - Added as a new armor type for Diablo III, the shoulders have had much controversy in comparing the game to World of Warcraft. Many people have talked about the over-exaggeration of their size but Blizzard has commented on the fact that the isometric angel makes them look so large form straight on but they will not appear so in game.

Gloves - Perhaps highlighting this piece of armor the most, the Monk's gloves are a part of his weaponry, at least look wise. He has been featured with heavy gauntlets on his arm for his attacks with his hand. The Wizard has been shown with a dragon-looking glove on her hands. The Barbarian's have been shown covering most of his forearms leaving his hands free to dual-wield some axes. The Witch Doctor has kept in theme with some decorative bracelets.

Belts - It is unknown what purpose if any, the belts will have in Diablo III, with the removal of the potion belt, other than just a stat booster.

Pants - Also added for Diablo III, players can now wear some pants on their characters.

Boots - Rounding off the bottom of the character, boots are also in Diablo III.

Rings - There are two slots for rings.

Amulet - There is one slot for an amulet.

Shields

Shields will be available for every class to wield except for the Monk.

Availability

It is unknown how it will work with the auto stat system in place but every character is able to wear every type of armor.

Durability

As of now, durability has been removed from Diablo III. However, it has been commented on that they could easily add it in later if they decide to.

Specific Looks

While Diablo II had a few ranges of looks for each character, Diablo III had a much more stylized approach to the Armor. Every character has a distinct look to them and the armor they equip reflect this. So, if a Witch Doctor puts on a Gothic Plate then he will look vastly different from a Barbarian putting on the same armor. Blizzard has said that they want each character to stand out and look unique and their armor will reflect this.

Weapons

Types

There has not been much information siting the exact weapon types in the game. However, there have been mentions of a few generic weapon types. Axes, Swords, Daggers, Staves, Pole Arms, Mauls, Fist Weapons, Orbs, Wands (now have a ranged attack), Bows, and Battle Staves.

Class Specific

In Diablo III, only certain characters will be able to wield certain weapons. The Monk class can only use pole arms, battle staves, and fist weapons. They are also the only class that can use fist weapons. Wands will only be used by the Witch Doctor and the Wizard. The Wizard is also the only class that can use orbs. Thw Wizard will not be able to equip Mauls. It is unknown exactly what restrictions are on each character as of now.

Blizzard has said that they have put these restrictions is for two reasons. The first is to match the tone of the character. They don't want Wizard's swinging around Mauls and Barbarians attacking with wands. The second reason is for animation limits. For each character and weapon, a new and unique animation must be made. Limiting weapon choice per character helps them reduce the amount of animations needed and can use the time saved to perfect other animations.

Imbue

Players are able to imbue their weapons with magical properties. Fire, Lightning, Poison, Cold, and the newly added Aracne have all been shown on different weapons.

Miscellaneous

Health Globes

Scrolls - Scrolls of Town Portal have been removed from Diablo III to help players stay immersed in the action. Scrolls of identify are in the game but the entire identify system may be changed or completely removed. There have also been other scrolls, such as scroll of protection, which is assumed to raise certain stats temporarily.

Elixirs - Elixirs are used to temporarily raise a certain stat.

Gems - Gems will be returning in Diablo III but they may be slightly modified from Diablo II. The quality title still remains but another prefix has been added denoting the shape of the gem such as Chipped Star Topaz

Health Globes - Health Globes are a new added item in Diablo III. Rather than relying on potions, players will collect Health Globes as their primary source to regain life. In cooperative play, if one player grabs a Health Globe, everyone in their party receives the effect.

Potions - Health potions are still in the game. However, to help curb their use, health potions have a cool down for their use.

Bags - It is unknown if they are still being used due to the change in the inventory system. Bags are used to increase inventory capacity.
